What's really starting to concern me is this Bellingham Foden thing, it's starting to give me the same vibes as the argument about whether or not you could play Lampard and Gerrard in the same side. Whatever they do they need to do it soon and then stick to it, that whole Lampard Gerrard thing ruined England in more ways than just having to leave a brilliant player out of the team. The England management spent so long trying to work it out they forgot about other great players we had at the same time such as Joe Cole, who ended up playing on the left wing rather than starting as England's number 10.

The solution is so obvious, there’s absolutely no reason why we shouldn’t be able to play in a similar way to how Spain did last night. Rice and Bellingham in midfield, Foden ahead of them and two direct wide players in Saka and Gordon.

The Bellingham PR is crazy. The strange obsession with having to play him further forward causes big issues in the team. This is team game, not just getting the best out of one player.

The question of should Foden be dropped is a legitimate one. It’s not about people saying other people can do that role better, it’s about saying that role shouldn’t be in the team and a different profile of player should be playing so we’re not so unbalanced. When you’re relying on a right footed Trippier to provide all of your threat down the left then something is wrong. Drop Bellingham deeper and play Foden in the 10 or don’t play him at all.

Surprised the name Lewis Hall didn’t come up as a LB option as part of that discussion. With limited options at left back, taking Lewis Hall could be a benefit for England and his development. Potentially the future long term England left back choice & would be getting senior england tournament experience and not just to make up the numbers either, he can play and play well! Remains to be seen if he can make the step up and take the shirt with what seems little to no competition at present. Potentially an opportunity missed?

I agree that Gordon has to start. His legs, runs in behind and the width he can bring are too important, it’s partly why I’m baffled Rashford isn’t part of the squad. He can win you a game off the bench and is totally unique in that squad. Also I cannot bare to watch a Foden/Trips left hand side. Too much inversion. Who is Trent diag-ing the ball too? It’s why I’d have 100% taken Mitchell.

Trent RB, Gomez inverted LB maybe. Trippier at LB is horrible. Wouldn’t mind Gallagher, but would’ve liked to see more faith in Wharton.

Let’s just hope Shaw is fit asap. Think Trent has a fair shout to play at RB. So much more capable than Walker. So creative.
